Customer questions and answers for Energizer® Energizer Alkaline A544 Battery

Question

Is the A544 equivalent in size to 4 LR44 stacked together?

Would an A544 work in a device that currently requires 4 LR44 batteries arranged in series? Is it, as the 4LR44 designation suggests the exact size as 4 LR44 batteries stacked on top of each other?

To answer my own question, no, the A544 is slightly larger to accomodate contacts at either end and a metal wrapping. However, this wrapping is very easily removed to reveal four standard LR44 cells which do fit, making the A544 an economical way to buy LR44 batteries.

Hi Joel, thank you for this great question, I would be happy to assist you. Regarding the A544 battery, this has a 3 year shelf life. There are two ways of detecting this, one take a look at the "copyright" date on the lower left of the package in the back, add 3 years to that. You can also see it etched on the body of the battery itself.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns.

While distribution often varies from store to store, our records indicate that the Energizer A544 can be found at a few of the national Hardware retailers as well as Sporting Goods. Unfortunately, this is a type that does not have mass distribution given that it is a very specialized battery for only certain devices.

Yes. Energizer manufacturers a 371 battery that is the replacement for the SR920SW. While distribution may vary from store to store, our records indicate that Walgreens carries this particular type.
